Wicker has not only made the leap from outdoor to indoor but the new updated styles can have a fresh, sleek, modern look… we are definitely not talking your Grandma’s old time wicker.
There are now pieces in woven banana leaf, twisted sea grass, and all sorts of other interesting versions that can work with all different design schemes.Incorporating a few select wicker items is a great way to add texture and depth to the design of a small space, but a little goes along way, you don’t want it to look like an outdated hotel room in Key West.
As far as furniture goes I’d choose one or two wicker occasional chairs with cushions (Pier 1 has some great choices), the scale will be good for a smaller space and you won’t be overdoing it.
Other good pieces are wicker ottomans with upholstered seats to balance the look or a cocktail table or end table with a glass top (Braxton Culler has really neat items).
You can also get the look with a range of wicker accessories, everything from baskets and serving trays to shelving units and wall mirrors. I recommend incorporating the furniture items first and then add the accessories one by one so you can avoid the “all out wicker” look!
